Description

The titanium tongue barbell is a classic 14G straight barbell — a smooth bar with a ball screwed onto each end, made for the tongue. Light in the mouth and easy to keep clean, in implant-grade titanium that stays kind to a healing piercing.

It is machined from ASTM F136 titanium (grade 23) — nickel-free and cobalt-free, light and corrosion-resistant. The material piercers recommend for a fresh piercing and for sensitive skin, polished to a quiet silver shine. Prefer gold? See the gold tongue barbell.

Both balls screw off the bar, so you can swap a worn ball, change the length as the swelling goes down, or clean the whole piece in seconds — no tools, just clean hands. The same 14G straight bar also sizes up for a nipple or a longer industrial.

Choosing your length

A tongue is pierced long to allow for swelling — usually 18–20 mm at first — then downsized to 14–16 mm once it has healed, so the bar sits comfortably and doesn't knock the teeth. This barbell is 14G (1.6 mm), the standard tongue gauge. Match the size your piercer set, and ask them before downsizing. Our gauge and size guide explains it simply.

Frequently asked questions about the tongue barbell

  • Which length do I need? 18–20 mm for a fresh piercing (room for swelling), 14–16 mm once healed. Your piercer will confirm when it's safe to downsize.
  • Is titanium safe for a fresh tongue piercing? Yes — implant-grade ASTM F136 titanium is nickel-free and biocompatible, the recommended choice for a new or sensitive piercing.
  • Can I swap just the balls? Yes — each ball unscrews from the bar, so you can change a ball or the length without replacing the whole barbell.

A straight bar that's gentle on a healing tongue.

A tongue piercing heals in the mouth, so the metal has to be truly biocompatible. This barbell is implant-grade ASTM F136 titanium (G23): nickel-free, cobalt-free and hypoallergenic — the material piercers trust. The balls screw off so you can downsize as the swelling settles, and the smooth bar is easy to keep clean.

Putting in your flat back

Three moves and it's in. The top screws on at the front — the flat disc stays put behind.

1

Disc behind

Place the flat disc behind the piercing, flat against the skin.

2

Post through

Guide the post through the hole, to the front.

3

Screw the top

Screw the top onto the post from the front (internal thread). Snug, not forced.

Once in, it doesn't spin or snag — you can sleep in it. On a fresh piercing, have your piercer fit it.

Which tongue barbell length should I choose?
A fresh tongue piercing needs 18–20 mm to allow for swelling; once healed it is usually downsized to 14–16 mm so the bar sits comfortably. Match the length your piercer fitted and ask them before downsizing.
Is titanium safe for a fresh tongue piercing?
Yes. Implant-grade ASTM F136 titanium is nickel-free and biocompatible, the material piercers recommend for a new or sensitive piercing.
Can I change just the balls?
Yes — each ball unscrews from the bar by hand, so you can swap a ball or change the length without buying a whole new barbell.
