Nipple Piercing

A barbell or ring for men and women alike — in nickel-free, body-safe metal.

Nipple piercing jewellery: straight barbells and rings in a material you can trust on a sensitive, slow-healing spot. G23 titanium to start, gold once settled. Discreet or decorative, pick a piece that feels comfortable and looks beautiful. The same straight barbell also fits a tongue; our gauge and size guide helps with length.

Nipple piercings, for everyone

A nipple piercing is a horizontal piercing through the base of the nipple, worn by men and women alike. It is one of the more popular body piercings and is usually done one side at a time or as a pair. Anatomy varies a lot from person to person, so a good piercer will check placement and angle before starting.

Nipple jewellery: barbells and rings

  • Straight barbell — the standard for a fresh piercing; a bar with a ball at each end, usually 14G.
  • Rings & hoops — a ring or clicker for a bolder look once fully healed.
  • Decorative ends — hearts, gems or shaped tops to change the barbell without re-piercing.

A 14G is the usual gauge; thinner jewellery is more likely to be rejected. See the types of piercing jewellery.

Healing a nipple piercing

Nipples heal slowly — usually 6 to 12 months, and they can seem healed long before they are. Keep the straight barbell in the whole time, clean twice a day with sterile saline, wear a soft bra or cotton top to stop it catching, and avoid pools and shared water early on. Full routine in our aftercare guide.

Does a nipple piercing hurt?

It is a sensitive area, so the moment of piercing is sharp but very quick — most people rate it 5 to 7 out of 10, with the first second being the worst of it. A professional needle piercing and a straight 14G barbell give it the best chance to heal cleanly.

How long does a nipple piercing take to heal?
Usually 6 to 12 months, and often longer than it looks. Keep the original straight barbell in the whole time, clean it twice a day with saline, and wear something soft over it to prevent snagging.
Can men get nipple piercings too?
Yes — nipple piercings are equally common among men and women, and the jewellery, healing and aftercare are the same. Placement is chosen to suit your anatomy either way.
What jewellery is best for a fresh nipple piercing?
A straight 14G barbell in implant-grade titanium. The straight bar heals most reliably, 14G resists rejection better than thinner gauges, and titanium is nickel-free. Save rings for once it is fully healed.
Does a nipple piercing hurt?
The area is sensitive, so it is a sharp pinch — but it is over in a second, and most people rate it 5 to 7 out of 10. The piercing itself is fast; the patience is in the long healing.
