What is a daith piercing
A daith piercing passes through the innermost fold of cartilage, right above the ear canal. It is tucked deep inside the ear, so the jewellery curves around that fold — which is why it photographs so well and sits close to the rook in a layered ear.
Daith jewellery: rings, clickers and hearts
The daith is made for curved, ring-style pieces:
- Clickers — hinged rings that follow the fold, the easiest to wear and change.
- Heart rings — the shape the daith is famous for; the curve of the fold forms one side of the heart.
- Seamless rings — a clean, continuous hoop for a minimal look.
Because the piece sits deep, a snug diameter looks best. See the types of piercing jewellery.
Titanium or gold for a daith
- Implant-grade titanium (G23) — nickel-free and hypoallergenic, the safe choice for a fresh daith.
- Gold finish — warm gold PVD over a titanium base for a healed daith, still nickel-free.
Daith piercings and migraines: the honest version
You will see the daith linked to migraine relief. The idea borrows from acupuncture, but there is no solid medical evidence that a daith piercing treats or prevents migraines — reports are anecdotal and effects may be placebo. Get a daith because you like how it looks, and treat migraines with your doctor. We would rather tell you that straight than sell a promise.
Healing a daith piercing
As a deep cartilage fold, a daith heals slowly — usually 4 to 9 months. It can be awkward to clean, so flush it with sterile saline, keep hair and headphones from catching it, and resist changing the jewellery early. Our aftercare guide covers the full routine.
Does a daith piercing hurt?
The daith is thick cartilage, so it is a firm, deep pressure more than a sharp sting — most people rate it 4 to 6 out of 10. It is an equally popular choice for men, often paired with a rook.
