Industrial Piercing

Two cartilage holes joined by a single straight bar — the boldest ear statement.

Industrial piercing jewellery: the long barbell that links two points of the upper ear cartilage. In nickel-free G23 titanium, light and safe for a demanding, slow-healing piercing. A bold, architectural look across the helix. Available in titanium or gold, and it sits beautifully with a rook. Match the length in our gauge and size guide.

What is an industrial piercing

An industrial piercing is two cartilage piercings connected by one long straight barbell — usually a helix at the top and a forward helix lower down, crossing the upper ear diagonally. It is the most graphic ear piercing, and because the single bar links two holes, placement has to be planned by an experienced piercer so the angle sits right.

Industrial jewellery: barbells, chains and charms

  • Straight barbell — the defining piece; a single bar with a ball or charm at each end, in 14G or 16G.
  • Chains & charms — once healed, swap the solid bar for two studs joined by a chain for a softer, dainty version.
  • Decorative ends — spikes, gems or shaped tops to change the look without re-piercing.

Titanium or gold for an industrial

Titanium is especially worth it here because a reaction would affect both holes at once.

Healing an industrial piercing

Two cartilage piercings on one bar heal slowly — plan for 4 to 12 months. The rigid bar makes it more prone to irritation and bumps if it is knocked or slept on, so protect it, clean both holes twice a day with sterile saline, and keep the bar in until fully healed. Full routine in our aftercare guide.

Does an industrial piercing hurt?

It is two cartilage piercings in one sitting, so expect two firm pinches — most people rate it 5 to 6 out of 10. It is a popular bold choice for men and women; a fake industrial ear cuff lets you try the look with no needle first.

Does an industrial piercing hurt?
You get two cartilage piercings in one session, so expect two firm pinches — most people rate it 5 to 6 out of 10. The piercing itself is quick; the longer part is the healing.
Why is titanium recommended for an industrial?
Because the single bar passes through two fresh cartilage holes, a nickel reaction would irritate both at once. Implant-grade titanium is nickel-free and hypoallergenic, which is why it is the safest choice while it heals.
Can I change an industrial bar to a chain?
Once both holes are fully healed, yes — many people swap the straight bar for two studs linked by a chain for a daintier look. Do it only after healing, and keep to nickel-free materials.
