Description

The gold cartilage hoop is a hinged clicker ring with a small cubic-zirconia charm that dangles from its base — a helix hoop that catches the light every time you move. Worn in the helix, it looks just as good in a conch, tragus, daith or rook, in implant-grade titanium that stays kind to healing cartilage. Prefer a silver tone? See the natural titanium hoop.

It is machined from ASTM F136 titanium (grade 23) and finished in PVD gold over that titanium core — nickel-free and cobalt-free, the warm colour of gold with the skin-safety of titanium, never plated brass. See how it compares with solid gold and plated steel. The material piercers recommend for a fresh piercing and for sensitive skin.

The hinge is what makes it easy: one side swings open, slides through the piercing and snaps locked, so there's no captive bead to lose and no bending a seamless ring open and closed. Once shut it reads as one clean circle, with the charm swinging softly below.

Choose your charm

Three faceted cubic-zirconia charms hang from the hoop, each cut to sparkle: a kite (an elongated, pointed drop), a heart, and a pear teardrop. The kite and heart come in two sizes, the pear in one — pick the shape that feels like you.

Simple or crystal ring

Then choose the ring to match: Simple is a clean, polished band, while Crystal sets a row of cubic-zirconia along the front of the hoop for extra sparkle. Same charm, two moods.

Where to wear your cartilage hoop

One hoop, many piercings: the same ring suits a helix, forward helix, conch, tragus, daith, rook or lobe. Match the inner diameter to the spot — smaller for a tight helix, a touch larger for a conch or lobe — and keep the gauge your piercer used. Pair it with the matching gold pavé ring.

Choosing your size

Each option shows the charm size in millimetres (height × width) — for example a 6 × 3 mm kite or a 4 × 4 mm heart. The hoop itself is a standard cartilage clicker; if you're matching an existing piercing, our gauge and size guide explains how to measure.

Frequently asked questions about the cartilage hoop

  • Is it safe on a fresh piercing? Yes — implant-grade ASTM F136 titanium is nickel-free and biocompatible, the recommended choice for new or sensitive cartilage.
  • How does the hinge work? One side swings open on a tiny hinge; you pass it through the piercing, then press it shut until it clicks locked. No tools, no separate bead.
  • Will the charm fall off? No — the charm hangs from a soldered jump ring at the base of the hoop and moves freely without coming loose.
Material and care

  • Material: implant-grade ASTM F136 titanium (G23)
  • Nickel-free and cobalt-free — hypoallergenic
  • Style: hinged clicker hoop with a dangling cubic-zirconia charm
  • Ring: Simple (plain band) or Crystal (cubic-zirconia pavé)
  • Charm shapes: kite (6×3, 10×5 mm), heart (4×4, 6×6 mm), pear (7×5 mm)

Care: clean with sterile saline and pat dry. Wash your hands before opening the hinge, and leave the jewellery in until the piercing has fully healed. See our aftercare guide.

A hoop with movement — kind to cartilage, catches the light.

Cartilage heals slowly and stays fussy, so the metal matters. This hinged hoop is implant-grade ASTM F136 titanium (G23) finished in PVD gold: nickel-free, cobalt-free and hypoallergenic — the warmth of gold with the skin-safety of titanium — while a small faceted cubic-zirconia charm swings from the base to add movement and sparkle. The hinge clicks shut into a clean circle, so there's no bead to drop and nothing to force through a sensitive piercing.

Putting in your flat back

Three moves and it's in. The top screws on at the front — the flat disc stays put behind.

1

Disc behind

Place the flat disc behind the piercing, flat against the skin.

2

Post through

Guide the post through the hole, to the front.

3

Screw the top

Screw the top onto the post from the front (internal thread). Snug, not forced.

Once in, it doesn't spin or snag — you can sleep in it. On a fresh piercing, have your piercer fit it.

Where can I wear a cartilage hoop?
It suits most ear-cartilage piercings — helix, forward helix, conch, tragus, daith and rook — as well as a lobe. Pick the inner diameter and gauge your piercer fitted.
Will the charm get caught on things?
The charm is small and hangs from a fixed jump ring at the base of the hoop. It moves freely but sits close to the ear, so it stays out of the way day to day.
Is titanium safe for a healing cartilage piercing?
Yes. Implant-grade ASTM F136 titanium is nickel-free and biocompatible, the recommended choice for new or sensitive cartilage. Have your piercer fit the first piece.
