Description

The gold rook curved barbell is a small 16G banana bar topped with a five-petal cubic-zirconia flower — a warm gold sparkle made for the rook fold of the ear. The curve follows the anti-helix so it tucks in neatly; a ball screws onto the bottom, in implant-grade titanium that stays kind to healing cartilage.

It is machined from ASTM F136 titanium (grade 23) and finished in PVD gold over that titanium core — nickel-free and cobalt-free, the warm colour of gold with the skin-safety of titanium, never plated brass. See how it compares with solid gold and plated steel. The material piercers recommend for a fresh piercing and for sensitive skin. Prefer a silver finish with eight designs? See the titanium rook barbell.

The bottom ball unscrews so you can put the barbell in yourself and keep it clean. The curved shape is made for the rook, and works just as well in an eyebrow or a snug.

Choosing your size

This barbell is 16G (1.2 mm) in two curve lengths — 6 mm and 8 mm. 6 mm sits snug, 8 mm suits a deeper fold. Match the size your piercer set. Our gauge and size guide explains it simply. For a hinged hoop that also sits in the rook, see the gold cartilage hoop.

Frequently asked questions about the gold rook barbell

  • Is it safe on a fresh piercing? Yes — implant-grade ASTM F136 titanium with a PVD-gold finish is nickel-free and biocompatible, the recommended choice for a new or sensitive piercing.
  • Can I wear it anywhere other than the rook? Yes — the same curved barbell suits an eyebrow, a snug or a daith.
  • How does it go in? The bottom ball unscrews; pass the curved bar through the piercing, then screw the ball back on by hand. No tools.

Putting in your flat back

Three moves and it's in. The top screws on at the front — the flat disc stays put behind.

1

Disc behind

Place the flat disc behind the piercing, flat against the skin.

2

Post through

Guide the post through the hole, to the front.

3

Screw the top

Screw the top onto the post from the front (internal thread). Snug, not forced.

Once in, it doesn't spin or snag — you can sleep in it. On a fresh piercing, have your piercer fit it.
