Description

This heart helix earring draws a small open heart in light: tiny round clear crystals are pavé-set all the way around a hollow heart outline, about 4.5 x 4.5 mm. Because the centre is open, it looks like a delicate sketch of a heart rather than a heavy stone, and it stays airy on a helix. It also works as a heart tragus earring, and sits just as neatly in a tragus, conch, flat or lobe.

It is cut from ASTM F136 implant-grade titanium (G23): nickel-free, light and kind to sensitive skin. That matters in cartilage, which heals slowly and is quick to protest against cheap alloys, and it is why piercers reach for this metal first. Underneath, it is a heart flat back earring in labret style: a flat disc rests against the back of your ear, so there is no sharp end against your neck and nothing to snag on a pillow. The heart top screws into the post from the front (internally threaded), which keeps the thread out of the piercing channel.

Choosing your post length

The post is 16G (1.2 mm) and comes in 6, 8 or 10 mm. Pick 6 mm for a close, neat fit on a healed helix or tragus, 8 mm for the most versatile fit, and 10 mm when your cartilage is thicker or you want a little room. Your very first jewellery is fitted by your piercer, so stick to the gauge they chose.

Place the flat disc behind the piercing, flat against the skin.

Guide the post through the hole, to the front.

Screw the top

Screw the top onto the post from the front (internal thread). Snug, not forced.

Once in, it doesn't spin or snag — you can sleep in it. On a fresh piercing, have your piercer fit it.

Which post length should I order?
8 mm fits most helix and tragus piercings. Go for 6 mm if you like a snug fit on a healed piercing, or 10 mm for thicker cartilage.
Why titanium for cartilage?
ASTM F136 titanium is nickel-free and biocompatible, which makes it the usual choice for sensitive skin and slow-healing cartilage.

    Quick update after two months because I read the reviews before ordering. I've got a helix done a year and a half ago that's always been temperamental: bump, crusties, redness every time I changed the jewellery. My piercer advised me to stick with implant-grade titanium and go for a flat back. I chose this little heart in 6 mm because I wanted something pretty but not too big. Result: the bump has gone down, no more crusties, and the heart is still just as sparkly. All the stones are still there, nothing has moved. I'm really happy.
